Thermal barrier coating (TBC) is one of the key technologies of modern aero-engines

   The basic principle is based on the ceramic material has good chemical stability, high melting point and low thermal conductivity, ceramic coating contains a certain amount of porosity.As a result, the thermal barrier coating makes a good thermal insulation material.Can put the high temperature components from the high temperature gas, only 0.20 ~ 0.40 mm thickness of thermal barrier ceramic coating, can lower the temperature on the surface of the metal parts of 200 ~ 300 ℃, and the hot end components from gas corrosion and erosion. 

 

Plasma spraying thermal barrier coating is widely used in aerospace field

     The inner wall of the rocket engine nozzle extension under above 1500 ℃ high temperature flame at work flow erosion, time for a few seconds to hundreds of seconds, generally USES the plasma sprayed thermal barrier coatings for protection.The material of the rocket stage is generally aluminum alloy, and the inner wall is equipped with test instruments. In order to reduce the weight, the inner wall is milled into a grid shape by the milling process. The thinnest part is only 1.2mm. 
 

     High temperature flame erosion can also be protected by thermal barrier coating. 
 

   Thermal barrier coating technology has also been applied in China's manned space program, and plasma spraying has been applied to a large area of grid wing, a key component of the spacecraft escape system.
